Want to extend your child’s learning, enjoy the BEST time together and get the most from your music class?

Every week in our Caterpillar Music classes, we not only have incredible props, puppets and age-appropriate instruments, but we also have a different theme together with an element of show-and-tell. Here are 10 ways that you can get even more from your class….

  1. On the way to class – talk with your baby or toddler about this week’s theme/what to expect/anticipate which songs they will hear/what they will see. Bring a relevant toy or picture to show and tell.
  2. Greet other children and the Class leader when you enter, with their names if you know them and find a comfortable spot to sit with your child. Stay positive and relaxed even if it is your first class and you feel a little nervous.
  3. Put your phone away (except for taking photos of your child) and engage with your child throughout the class. It is only 40 minutes, but it is the perfect opportunity to bond, have fun and create some lasting memories.
  4. Join in with the songs – Don’t worry about your singing voice- they will love it!
  5. Encourage active listening– to instructions and to the songs and explain/demonstrate if they don’t understand, showing them how to use the instruments, puppets and props correctly and talk about their choices.
  6. Encourage gentle interaction and kindness with other children. “Gentle hands”
  7. Give lots of praise when they show kindness, tap to the beat and interact/engage well with the class and other little ones around them.
  8. After the class – ask them what they loved, which songs they remember – can you sing them together at home?
  9. On the way home from class ( or at home) find more pictures or items relevant to the theme and talk about them – this will develop further their language in context. You could help them draw or colour a picture and enjoy further bonding time.
  10. Use the “Tidy Up” song at home! It works wonders!
