“I used to spend my lunch hour expressing milk in a stationary cupboard

Filled with mum-guilt about returning to work when my first-born was only 7 months old, I was so very desperate to give him the best – so it was either the stationary cupboard or the toilets!  I opted for the more sterile option.

I felt awful about being away from him for a whole day with an hour-long commute each way on top (on a good day, without train delays). I just remember being in a permanent rush to get to work or to get back to him at the childminder’s.

It was at this point that I started to wonder what would happen once we wanted a second child, or a third child…… I simply couldn’t afford the childcare costs and I wanted to be there for their most precious years. That is when I found the perfect balance – an incredible, fun job that fit perfectly around my growing family. I could choose my own days and times to work, have school holidays off if I wanted.
