20 Baby Development areas we target in our Baby and Toddler Music Classes

There are so many baby development skills, that we focus on in our music, movement and sensory sessions. Our carefully-planned lessons cover all of the areas addressed in the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework, (updated in Sept 2021) and take into account the different learning styles. The areas we cover also help Nursery and Early Years Settings address their statutory targets. Here are 20 skills, selected from the broad spectrum of social, physical and educational areas:

  • Making Independent choices.

  • Exploring and engaging in new experiences.

  • Mastery of new skills and persevering.

  • Linking ideas.

  • Critical thinking and creating.

  • Language acquisition – vocabulary, word and speech structure.

  • Self-Expressing using feelings, preferences and body language.

  • Concentrating and maintaining focus on an activity.

  • Communicating – listening and responding.

  • Balancing, coordination, posture, strength and whole-body awareness.

  • Hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills and eye-tracking.

  • Transitioning between activities.

  • Gaining confidence and self-awareness.

  • Interacting socially, team-work and developing positive relationships.

  • Recognising and matching rhythm.

  • Learning to count and use simple addition and subtraction.

  • Learning about the diverse world around us.

  • Using imagination.

  • Visual Pattern recognition.

  • Learning about spatial awareness, directions and sizes.
