At the National Franchise Exhibition at the beginning of October, Helen was asked a series of questions on a panel, entitled “Being Part of a Franchise Family”
James Fay-Sedgwick from the British Franchise Association asked,
“What are the advantages of being part of a franchise family, rather than going it alone and starting up a brand-new business? “
Here is Helen’s response:
“The brand is already there, the website is created, the reputation is good and the business model does actually work.
The instruction manual (aka “The Operations Manual”) with the” Done For You” templates for success, the support of the network, someone to commiserate when things don’t go well and to celebrate your successes when things go well.
Support from husbands/partners/families and friends is great – but your Franchise Family really does understand everything in detail that you as a business owner will go through.
Knowing that the business has operated successfully in at least one location gives confidence that the same will happen elsewhere if the Operations Manual is followed.
Being part of a Franchise network usually means better buying power, involvement in national marketing campaigns as well as memberships. With that also comes staying up to date with industry changes too, which can be stressful on your own.
Obviously, it takes determination, resilience and commitment to run any business and there are no guarantees, but it is a known statistic that franchises are more likely to succeed than new start-up businesses.”
