At the National Franchise Exhibition at the start of October, Helen, our Franchisor and CEO, was asked a series of questions on a panel, entitled “Being Part of a Franchise Family”

James Fay-Sedgwick from the British Franchise Association asked,

“What is the Franchisor: Franchisee relationship like at Caterpillar Music?”

Here is Helen’s response:

We are very open and collaborative, we welcome ideas, we respect the fact that many of our franchisees have been running their businesses for more than 10 years, and herald from all different backgrounds. With that comes a wealth of knowledge that we applaud and if we can utilise that knowledge and those skills in any way in our network for the benefit of everyone, then we will.

We hope that we can play to their individual strengths, empower them where we can and encourage open communication and engagement within the network.

One recent example of this has been when we overhauled our lesson plans, in line with the updated Early Years Guidance in 2021. It was a huge project, but we were keen to ensure that we could address all Early Years development stages in every class and draw on the wealth of ideas across the network.

An experienced former franchisee was invited to lead the project and everyone was invited to share their ideas for songs and activities to target these key areas and every theme that we cover at Caterpillar Music.

It was a huge success not only because of the fantastic lesson plans created, but also the conversations on those Zoom calls that knitted us all closer together as one Caterpillar Music family.”
